Brief Profile

Dr. Muhammad Jaffar-ur-Rehman received his MSc in computer science from Quaid-i-Azam University, and his MS and PhD from University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, USA. After his PhD, he taught in various universities in the USA, Australia, and Pakistan. Finally, he settled at Mohammad Ali Jinnah University (MAJU) in Islamabad. At MAJU, he founded the CSD research group. As Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Sciences at MAJU, he has the honour of starting MS and PhD programs at the university.

Dr. Jaffar had an outstanding academic record. He topped and earned gold medals consistently in his academic career. As a teacher, he was able to motivate his students and keep their interest high in the subject by presenting them new challenges and making them think laterally. Despite being a brilliant academician and a favourite of the students, he had a humble and down-to-earth personality. He often went too far out of his way to help others.

Dr. Jaffar was martyred along with his wife and four daughters on 8th October 2005 in an earthquake that collapsed the Margalla Towers in Islamabad.
